His instrument, the hammer dulcimer, dates back to biblical times and is the forerunner to the piano. Any style of music can be played on the hammer dulcimer, but it is usually associated with folk music. Through his recordings, Ned has taken the hammer dulcimer in a completely different direction. He uses top rated symphony musicians to accompany him on harp, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, classical guitar,

saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, piano, English  horn, French horn, and all types of percussion
instruments, from timpani to tiny finger cymbals.
